An Uber driver in Virginia was arrested after he allegedly raped a female passenger he had picked up through the popular car service app, officials said.

Police said that Sewanou Bisile Yoro, 34, picked up the alleged victim Saturday night and attacked her between 9:34 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on Holly Road in Virginia Beach.

Yoro, of Norfolk, had worked part time as a driver for Uber for about three years, earning about $350 a week, a bail determination checklist obtained by The Virginian-Pilot said.

He has no known previous criminal history, according to an incident report filed by the Virginia Beach Police Department.

The condition of the alleged victim, who police said was an adult, was not immediately released.

Yoro was arrested on Monday and charged with abduction, rape and aggravated assault.

He was held without bond in Virginia Beach City jail.

At his arraignment Tuesday, Yoro was appointed a public defender and a preliminary hearing was set for May 4, the Pilot reported.

An Uber spokeswoman told InsideEdition.com that Yoro was banned from working for the company.

“The type of conduct that has been described has no place on the app or anywhere,” the spokeswoman said.

"We will work with police to provide them with any information that would be useful in their investigation," she said.
