A North Carolina teen arrested for allegedly decapitating his mother told officials he killed her "because I felt like it," according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by InsideEdition.com.

Oliver Mauricio Funes Machada, 18, told a 911 dispatcher on Monday that he stabbed his mom, Yesenia Funez Beatriz Machado, "like eight times" and left the knife in her mouth, Det. A.R. Roberts of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office said in a sworn statement.

"She’s dead," he allegedly insisted after the dispatcher asked to check if she was breathing.

Police responding to the 911 call said they found Machada standing outside his Zebulon home, holding in one hand a large butcher knife, and in the other, his mother’s severed head.

The rest of Machado’s body was found in the home, where his 4-year-old sister and 2-year-old brother were left unharmed, officials said.

A third sibling was at school at the time of the incident.

Bloody shoeprints and bloody clothing in a laundry hamper were also reportedly found at the home.

Machada was taken into custody without incident and was charged with first-degree murder, police said.

His public defender, attorney C. Boyd Sturges III, told InsideEdition.com on Tuesday that he believes his client has "some serious mental health issues."

"That’s my opinion... he has unfortunately suffered from some pretty serious demons," Sturges added.

According to reports, investigators seized medications belonging to the suspect that treat psychosis and schizophrenia.

District Attorney Mike Waters will reportedly seek a mental evaluation of Machada, telling WNCN-TV that it will "take weeks and months for us to get some answers as to why this happened."

Machada has no known prior arrests, police said.

Machada, whose name is listed in federal records as Funes-Machado, was originally from Honduras and in the U.S. illegally, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) spokesman Bryan Cox told InsideEdition.com.

"ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) has issued a detainer for Oliver Funes-Machado, an unlawfully present Honduran national, following his arrest March 6 on local charges in Franklin County, North Carolina," Cox said.

Machada is due in court on March 14.
